75 and Sunny? In Buffalo?

I’m amazed at how long warm weather has continued in Buffalo. Today is October 4, and the high is 75. One of my professors mentioned in class today that tomorrow’s high is supposed to be 85! I am certainly not complaining, but how can this be? A year ago next week we had the October snow storm that left Medaille’s dorms running on generators and a lot of classes cancelled for days. (I’m knocking on wood that I don’t ruin the streak of good weather!) Today, I finished class at 12:35, ate some lunch, and waited for my roommate to get out of class. Then we walked through Delaware Park and over to Delaware Avenue to shop some of the plazas that line the street. I hope that other people are finding ways of taking advantage of the awesome weather.

There are a number of different things to do around Medaille while the sun is still shining. For one thing, we have a beautiful park right across the street. A lot of Medaille students, including myself, run in Delaware Park. If you’re not big on running, you can always take a nice walk around it, and if you’re feeling adventurous, you can even make your way over to the lake by the Albright Knox Art Gallery. I’ve also heard that the Forest Lawn Cemetery, located right behind Medaille, is a beautiful place to walk or run, but I haven’t tried it yet. (Rick James is buried there, if you didn’t already know. There’s a little fun fact for the day…) Everytime I go outside I see students throwing a football or baseball, or kicking a soccer ball around the quad. Some students even like to play Kan Jam, which I would definitely recommend playing if you haven’t already tried. There have also been events on campus hosted outside, like the Powder Puff Football game and Camping in the Quad. There has also been an ongoing Flag Football Tournament going on for the past few weeks, and from what I’ve seen, it gets pretty intense. I wish that the nice weather could last all year, but I have a feeling we might not be that lucky.
