Cross Country Winds Down

Yesterday morning my alarm went off at 7:30, because I had to be at the Sullivan Center by 8. We had a cross country meet at Houghton College, which is about an hour and a half away from Medaille. It was raining when I woke up, and I won’t lie, I was not looking forward to this drive or this meet quite so early in the morning. The entire ride there, it poured. I was dreading having to run 5k in a tank top and shorts if it was going to rain. It was weird though, because as soon as we got there it stopped raining.

After figuring out which way to go, we found the course. The people from the school were very nice and had t-shirts for the team. We checked out the map of the run, and the girls ran first. The course was really nice, and it looped around corn fields and through the woods. Like the ride to the campus, it was very scenic. When we were finished, there was apple cider, water, apples, and all different kinds of bagels waiting for us. Some of the moms of people on the team had also brought us food. We cooled down, had a little bit to eat, and cheered on the guys.

When they were finished, we packed up and stopped at a Subway down the street. It had to have been the nicest Subway any of us had ever seen. It was kind of weird how nice it was. There was a spiral staircase leading up to a second-floor eating level, hardwood floors, and the tables were like kitchen tables you would find in a house. It was really home-y and cute. As soon as we got back into the van, it started to rain again. It was like someone knew we had this race to run, and didn’t want us to be too miserable while we did it. I was thankful, to say in the least.

Next weekend is our last meet, the AMCC Championship Race at Hilbert. The course is at Frontier High School, which is right by where I live. It’s always nice to be close to home. Hopefully this good weather will hold up until next Saturday, because it would be a shame to have to run in freezing cold weather for the last meet. We have been so lucky this far! I guess we’ll have to see how it goes…
