Back to Books

I’ll admit it: I don’t read hardly as often as I used to. I love reading, and I have loved reading since I was very young. In Kindergarten, I was the only student who could read, so my classmates would ask me to read to them. Of course, I was more than happy to. After dinner, I wasn’t allowed to watch television; I read books with my parents until bedtime. Growing up I read book after book, and that’s a habit I want to instill in my own children when I someday have them. These days, however, I don’t have nearly as much free time as I used to. There are so many books that I would love to read, but I have other more important things to do.

For my Child Development class, I am required to complete two book reports/case studies by the end of the semester. Yesterday, I went out and bought my first book, A Child Called “It.” The book is relatively easy reading, and I was able to breeze through about half of it last night when I got home from my shopping adventure. It made me realize how much I miss reading. Standing in the book aisle, I noticed so many books that caught my attention. I thought to myself, “if only I had time to read that!” As a result, I have vowed to increase the amount of reading I do over the summer.

I consider myself fortunate that I was assigned this book report, because I have been able to return to the world of book-reading. I read plenty of textbooks, but it is not nearly as satisfying as reading for fun.
